The Memory Lux has been designed using patented technology that nobody else uses. It is the peak of mattress perfection – or it promises to be, at any rate. We put the Winkbeds Memory Lux mattress under the magnifying glass to find out if it is truly as good as it says it is… read on to find out our results.

Branding

Winkbeds are a bid name in the mattress world and have a whole range of high-end mattresses for you to choose from. The Memory Lux is given the same preferential treatment on their website as all the other models are, which is good to see. Their branding colors are white and dark blue, which are both attention grabbing and smart. They also feature lots of comments on their page associating their brand with other, well-known names.

This is a brand well known for their affability and consumer care. They offer free returns and free trials, even if you don’t go ahead and buy. They give lifetime guarantees with some of their mattresses and they have a whole range of high quality products. This particular model is a high-end latex foam hybrid mattress, which makes for full luxury as well as great support.

All Winkbeds mattresses are fully made in the USA at their Wisconsin factory. They are also handmade, which means that the delivery time is a smidgen longer but that it will be personalized to what you want. The lifetime durability promise they give with the mattress really sells it as a trusted brand. They wouldn’t give such a haughty guarantee if they didn’t think it was something they could sustain.

Winkbeds MemoryLux Comfort & Feel

This mattress has the same luxury you would expect from the Winkbeds brand, but comes without the luxury price tag that some of their other models have. Although it is CertiPUR-US certified, it does not contain the all-natural or all-organic features that you might find on their other products. The top layer in this mattress is made from Tencel which is derived from Eucalyptus and is reinforced with a 2 inch layer of cooling gel foam. This means that you have a lovely, cool, top layer that won’t overheat while you rest.

To add to the high level of comfort this mattress provides, they have quilted the top layer which will add to the amount of airflow that passes under you while you sleep. The quilted texture is soft and cool to the touch, while allowing a little separation between you and the zoned foam layer beneath. The memory foam aspects to this bed means that it will conform to the shape of your body to cup you while you rest, but the Aircell tech also relieves pressure in a way that normal foams can’t. What this results in is a cool, relaxing sleep where you really do feel like you might be floating.

This is a full foam bed, although different types of foam layering is used. It performs strangely by comparison to other foam beds because of those air pockets, but it does make for a very comfortable night’s sleep.

You will like the Winkbeds MemoryLux Mattress if you:

      • Are a hot sleeper – this might be the one for you. It hasn’t just been cooling gel infused, it has the added benefit of the Eucalyptus and it supports you fully, too.
      • If you are bothered by motion transfer from a partner in the night – this bed will give very little motion.
      • If you are looking for a full foam bed instead of a hybrid with coils.
      • If you are a back or stomach sleeper, it will also work well for side sleepers who do not experience pain in the hip or shoulders.
      • Want the luxury of a Winkbeds mattress without the same price tag as some of their other models.

 

You might not Winkbeds MemoryLux if you:

• Want to sleep on a hybrid mattress that has enough coils to give you some spring back.
• If you do not want to sleep on a full memory foam bed.
• If you are a cold sleeper or tend to prefer a heated blanket or mattress.
• Want more edge support than a memory foam mattress can give you.

Shipping, Unboxing & Off Gassing

Delivery of the EcoCloud Hybrid mattress is usually free and takes between 7 and 10 working days from the moment that your order. It is completely normal for a mattress firm to deliver a bed-in-a-box to your door, but it isn’t quite so normal for them to offer to take away your old mattress too, for a small additional fee. We like this aspect and wish more firms followed suit.

When your bed is delivered it will come in a box and vacuum sealed inside plastic wrapping. This saves space during transport and allows for a more Eco-friendly delivery model. Once it has arrived we suggest that you take it to the room you are going to house it in before you start to open it, as it will be more difficult to maneuver afterwards.

Once the mattress is in position, take a sharp tool and cut away the cardboard, then work through the plastic film being very careful not to cut through the fabric of the bed. The mattress will start to unroll as soon as it is free of the packaging, and will expand as soon as the plastic is off – so don’t worry if it looks compressed! Your mattress will be fully expanded in no more than 24 hours, but you will be able to sleep on it before then.

We gave the Winkbeds EcoCloud mattress a 10 out of 10 for delivery and setup. It simply couldn’t be easier than it already is!

Off-Gassing

To us, off-gassing is a really deceptive term because any new product you buy is going to smell like wherever it has been stored before you bought it. It may smell like a warehouse, it may smell like a factory, it may smell like the shop you bought it in. It is similar to the smell of a new car or of new shoes and should not be considered harmful in any way.

Ordinarily it is all natural or all organic mattresses that smell more than others. This is because of the natural fibers used in the production process, which are more likely to smell than synthetic materials. This does not mean that there is anything to worry about, it is simply a scent and nothing chemical. That being said, there are some of us who are still concerned about off-gassing and, if you are one of those people, then this may just be the mattress for you.

Not only does the EcoCloud Hybrid have very little scent to it, any smell that it does have has been certified pure and natural. There is absolutely nothing in this mattress capable of harming you. We noticed no smell at all, but if you do then it should be gone within 36 hours. After you place a mattress protector and sheets on it you shouldn’t notice it at all.

Winkbeds MemoryLux Mattress Construction

This mattress comes in either soft, medium or firm levels of comfort so you can choose which suits you best. It is also zoned off into the head and neck, shoulders, lumbar and lower back, hips, knees, legs and ankle and feet areas. This means you get twice the choices with this mattress than you do any other.

The top layer is Tencel fabric which has been derived from Eucalyptus and has been reinforced with a two inch layer of cooling gel infused memory foam. This top layer keeps you cool while giving an anti-microbial quality to the mattress.

Underneath that top layer is a zoned progression foam of Winkbeds patented design. This layer gives targeted support to the different areas of your body mentioned above. It is softer towards the shoulder and legs and harder towards the lower back and hip regions. The layer of patented Aircell technology comes next, providing another layer of support while dispersing any heat that does manage to get through those top layers. This also helps with edge support in this model.

Lastly, a high density foam blend known as Atlas Foam is used to create the base, or core, layer. This layer is strong and stable enough to support the whole mattress and keep everything in place. It is also designed to be sag resistant and carry their durability guarantee, so you know it has been made to last a lifetime.

Motion Transfer

One thing that a full foam bed does very well is make for great motion reduction. Memory foam has been specifically designed to conform to the shape of your body. So when you put any pressure on it it will simply abide by your shape. The Winkbeds Memory Lux mattress is no exception to this rule and might be just the mattress for those that sleep beside a partner that tosses and turns.

Added to the fact that this bed is full foam is the Tencel Fabric and the air pocketed foams – both of which have the ability to soak up and disperse the weight above. This means that no matter how many times your partner gets up for the toilet in the night you won’t feel them. This mattress soaks up your weight through pressure point relief then spreads it out across the many zones. You will close your eyes at night and now know a thing until morning.

Edge Support

Memory foam beds are just terrible for edge support, it is a known flaw in the design. Edge support requires a certain amount of density to allow for your weight when you sit on the edge of the bed. If the bed doesn’t have springs or some other type of reinforcement then the chances are that you will slide right on off the edge when you aren’t paying attention.

While the Winkbeds Memory Lux might be a fully memory foam bed it doesn’t have the same problems with sinkage that others do. The edges have been inlaid with that Aircell technology which allows you to be bolstered up from the bottom when you sit down. It’s supportive and conforms to your body without sucking you in and smothering you. This is the same thing that makes it good for stomach sleepers as well as back sleepers… you won’t feel smothered in this bed.

Temperature:

As we mentioned before; that Tencel fabric cover works hard to cool you down through the night. So even although full memory foam mattresses are notoriously bad for overheating during your sleep – this one manages to stay cool. When you add the cooling gel infused foam into the mix it really does make for a cool mattress that won’t wake you up sweating.

On top of all that temperature regulation in those vital top layers this mattress has four separate sections that allow for air to flow and move under you while you sleep. Added to this, they zoned out the mattress using different densities of foam in different areas. This is meant to give added support where you need it, but has the unforeseen benefit of keeping you cool in the night.

The Aircell foam is a further tool in the temperature regulation of the Memory Lux mattress. The air pockets inside the particular blend of memory foam they use completely eliminates any heat transfer. This bed won’t get hot in the night because it isn’t able to. So you won’t be either.

We love this mattress as an affordable alternative to the other models in their range. It gives you the taste of luxury without coming in at the same price point, therefore opening the possibility of a high-end product up to those who might not otherwise get the chance.

Asides from the price the cooling technology in this mattress is brilliant. It also has great motion reduction and does not do too badly for edge support, given that it is a full foam bed. We recommend this product to anyone who sleeps hot and to stomach sleepers who worry that a full foam mattress will choke them. It really is a little taste of luxury for everyone.
