  • Pillar has copper cooling foams and cooling fabric that helps it sleep cooler.  They do not charge more for the cooling fabric.
  • Pillar offers great support and pressure relief.
  • 6 full inches of foam above the coils.

Cons:

  • Is not as well-known as Helix.
  • They do not offer a firm firm version.

Helix Luxe:

Pros:

  • Helix offers several more firmness options
  • The mattresses are fairly easy to move.
  • Helix offers cooling fabric for a charge and has infused foams to aid in cooling as well.
  • Helix Luxe also has added lumbar support.

Cons:

  • Only 5 inches of foam above the coils.
  • Firmness options can be a little confusing.

The comfort of the Mattresses:

Pillar Firmness:

Firmness of the mattress depends upon the firmness ordered, The medium firm is a firmer mattress but it is not firm, so it has more support but still offers pressure relief.  The medium soft is the most sold and will work best for all sleepers with a nice balance of softness and support.

Both Pillar Sleep firmness’s should work for the majority of people considering they are in the medium realm.  I feel that the support and pressure relief feels great on both of them but side sleepers will likely prefer the medium soft feel the most and heavier sleepers the medium firm.

Helix Luxe Firmness:

It varies a ton on Helix for firmnesses.  I sell them in my stores and the most sold is the Midnight Luxe model.  That is a medium feel that compares the most to a Pillar.  They will also have a nice balance of softeness and support.  Both boasting a zoned coil unit for increased edge support.

Construction and Materials of Mattresses:

Pillar Sleep Construction:

The Pillar Sleep Mattress is a hybrid mattress built with multiple comfort and support layers designed to balance pressure relief, support, and cooling. While construction varies slightly by model, the typical build includes:

  • Quilted comfort cover for a soft, inviting surface feel.
  • Pressure-relieving foam layers that contour to the body and help reduce pressure points at the shoulders, hips, and back.
  • Transition support foam that provides responsiveness and prevents excessive sinkage.
  • Individually wrapped pocket coils that deliver targeted support, promote spinal alignment, and reduce motion transfer between sleep partners.
  • Zoned support system with firmer support through the center third of the mattress for enhanced lumbar support.
  • Reinforced edge support to increase usable sleep surface and improve durability.
  • High-density base foam that stabilizes the mattress and supports the coil system.
  • Cooling materials and airflow channels that help dissipate heat and maintain a comfortable sleeping temperature.

In simple terms: Pillar combines the contouring comfort of premium foams with the durability, support, and breathability of a pocketed coil system, creating a mattress that feels both cushioned and supportive rather than overly soft or overly firm.

Helix Midnight Luxe Construction:

The Helix Midnight Luxe is a premium hybrid mattress specifically designed for side sleepers and combination sleepers who want a balance of pressure relief and support. Its construction typically includes:

  • Premium quilted pillow top cover for a plush, hotel-style surface feel.
  • Helix Responsive Foam layers that provide cushioning and contouring without the deep sink associated with traditional memory foam.
  • Memory Plus Foam for enhanced pressure relief around the shoulders and hips.
  • Zoned lumbar support layer that is softer under the shoulders and firmer beneath the hips and lower back to promote proper spinal alignment.
  • Individually wrapped pocketed coils that offer targeted support, reduce motion transfer, and improve airflow.
  • Reinforced perimeter coils for stronger edge support and a larger usable sleep surface.
  • DuraDense base foam that stabilizes the mattress and supports the coil system.
  • Optional cooling upgrades such as a breathable TENCEL cover or GlacioTex cooling cover, depending on configuration.

In simple terms: The Helix Midnight Luxe combines a plush pillow-top feel with targeted lumbar support and responsive coils. It offers deep pressure relief for shoulders and hips while maintaining enough support to keep the spine aligned, creating a comfortable “sleeping on the mattress” feel rather than sinking too deeply into it.

Simply put they are very close in terms of components, but the pillar has one more inch of foam.  Both boasting cooling features, zoned support and a nice medium feel.

Distinctive Features of Both Mattresses:

Pillar Features:

  • Copper infused memory foam that aids in sleeping cooler
  • GlacierICE cover that is cold to the touch and also aids in sleeping cooler.
  • Zone edge support with zoned lumbar support.
  • 15 inches thick
  • Handles
  • 2 firmness’s that should fit all sleepers minus people seeking a firm mattress.

Helix Features:

  • Gel infused memory foam that aids in sleeping cooler
  • GlacioTEX cover that is cold to the touch and also aids in sleeping cooler.
  • Zone edge support with zoned lumbar support.
  • 14 inches thick
  • Handles
  • Multiple firmness’s that should fit all sleepers.

Conclusion

Conclusion:

Both Pillar Sleep and Helix Luxe mattresses are worth considering.  They both have high end builds, are both made in the USA.  The Pillar Sleep mattress offers most of the same components inside if its build as Helix but costs significantly less.  One of the main drivers for that is the fact that Helix is much more well-known and that they utilize affiliates much more and pay large commissions to review sites which can affect pricing to the end consumer.  If you are looking to save money, I recommend the Pillar but if you want well established and known the Helix is a solid choice.  I sell a ton of Helix mattresses in store and used to sell Pillar but the price of wholesale vs their sale prices have made it kind of tough.

They are both great mattresses; it just depends on what you want to spend and how much the company matters to you.
