With over 20 years of mattress industry experience, more than 300 mattresses reviewed, and mattress store ownership dating back to 2009, we bring a different perspective to mattress reviews.
We personally evaluate mattresses for comfort, firmness, support, cooling, motion transfer, edge support, and construction quality. We combine these hands-on observations with years of experience helping real customers find mattresses that fit their needs.
What We Look for When Testing Mattresses
We personally examine mattresses and combine hands-on observations with over 20 years of mattress industry experience. These six categories help us evaluate how a mattress feels, performs, and may suit different sleepers.
Comfort & Firmness
We lie on mattresses in different sleeping positions to assess surface softness, cushioning, contouring, and responsiveness.
We also consider how body weight and sleeping position may change the way a mattress feels.
Support & Pressure Relief
We evaluate how the mattress supports the body while allowing the shoulders and hips to settle into the comfort layers.
Our assessments combine firsthand comfort observations with experience helping customers with different support preferences.
Cooling & Breathability
We examine the cover, comfort materials, airflow features, and how the mattress surface feels during hands-on evaluation.
We distinguish these observations from laboratory temperature measurements. Bedding and room conditions can also affect sleeping temperature.
Motion Transfer
We observe how movement travels across the mattress when pressure is applied or someone changes positions.
This helps us evaluate how noticeable movement may be to a sleeping partner. Our demonstrations are qualitative unless a measurement method is stated.
Edge Support
We sit and lie near the perimeter to assess how stable the mattress feels and how much the edge compresses.
We consider the edge construction and whether the usable sleeping surface feels supportive.
Materials & Construction
We examine mattress materials, comfort-layer design, coil systems, and available construction details.
We use our industry experience to assess material quality and potential durability, without claiming to predict an exact lifespan.
