Saatva Vs Loom & Leaf | Mattress Comparison

These two mattresses are both made by the Saatva company.  The Saatva is their flagship model and the Loom & Leaf is the all foam mattress.  Both are great quality.

SAATVA:  Saatva is a luxury coil-on-coil innerspring mattress. Innerspring mattresses are the most popular among most consumers. Saatva features a tempered steel coil base, a layer of individually wrapped coils, multiple layers of cushioning with eco-friendly foams, patented spinal support technology, and a euro-pillow top wrapped in organic cotton — handcrafted without the use of harmful chemicals or toxins.

We were especially excited to see this mattress since 95% of sales in my store are innersprings or hybrids.  This one did not disappoint in terms of quality vs price.  Its a very good value.

LOOM & LEAF:  Loom and Leaf is a sister company of Saatva Mattress.  This mattress is a quality made Gel Infused Memory foam mattress that has some added features other memory foam mattresses do not offer.  Such as the spinal gel layer and a nice quilt on top for added softness and cooling.  This is one of our top picks in the foam arena.

Below is our full assesment of each brand.  We have covered how they feel, perform and we will provide our recommendation on which brandyou might want to consider.

You will like Saatva if you:

  • Like a traditional feel combined with a hybrid feel- Saatva has a traditional quilt and feel on top but uses a coil on coil design.  It’s a good combination that gives you a traditional feel paired with a hybrid type feel & performance.
  • Like to sleep cool – This mattress uses more of a traditional build and allows for great airflow.  I did not experiece excessive heat at all.

  • You want a good value – The Saatva is truly a good value.  When you look at the fact it has 2 coils systems and a large eurotop with a large amount of comfort foams its really impressive.  You can see other popular brands online that are close to the same price and half of the thickness.

  • Sleep in multiple positions – This mattress is a good medium feel with good body conformance.  Sleeping on your side, back or stomach Saatva will conform to your body very well.  You can also pick from 3 different firmness’s to fit any type of sleeper and sleeping position.

  • Are a heavier sleeper – This mattress is impressive and built like a tank.  It will work great for all body weights.

  • Like the combo of bounce and body conformance – With a good amount of comfort foams and the added quilt foams you have good body conformance and pressure relief.  When you combine that with the pocketed coil system you still maintain good bounce.

You will like Loom & Leaf if you:

  • You want a good value –  The Loom & Leaf stacks up to many of the big box store brands you will find in stores but will save you money.

  • Like to sleep cool – The design of the Loom & Leaf disperses heat efficiently. The quilting layers on top keep you from sleeping directly on the gel memory foam which can get warmer. In addition the poured gel layer helps with cooling where most of you body heat will reside on the mattress.

  • Value a choice of firmness – Loom & Leaf is not claiming that one mattress is “perfect for everyone”  which makes total sense!  Their double choice gives you options.

  • Are a heavier sleeper – When compared to a 10″ mattress the Loom & Leaf is a good option if you are a heavier sleeper.  You will not have issues bottoming out on this mattress.

  • Like the combo of bounce and body conformance – foe being a memory foam mattress it performs well here.   The quilt integrates well with the memory foam to give you a good combo of body conformance but without feeling “stuck”.  It helps keep you up and supported a bit more.

  • Want the little no motion transfer – Being all foam this will have better pressure relief than the Saatva or any hybrid mattress.

You might not like Saatva if you:

  • Want an all foam mattress– Saatva uses two different coil systems and will not have the same type of feel an all foam mattress has.
  • Have a super tight budget & don’t value real quality- Although the Saatva is a great value for how its made and how it specs out it’s still over $999 for a queen after shipping.  So if you’re looking to go really cheap, you will need to look somewhere else.

You might not like Loom & Leaf if you:

  • Prefer a coil mattress – Being an all foam mattress you do not have the spring/traditional feel.

  • Have a super tight budget & don’t value real quality- Although the Loom & Leaf is a great value for how its made and how it specs out it’s still over $999 for a queen.  So if you’re looking to go really cheap, you will need to look somewhere else.

  • Prefer latex to memory foam – Loom & Leaf has a true memory foam feel although the quilt helps some with adding a bit of bounce on top you still do not have as much bounce as a latex mattress.

Saatva Construction:

  • Top layer (comfort) – Cover & eurotop – The top layer is an organic cotton cover, The Pillowtop and quilting foam give you a nice traditional feel and extra pressure relief.
  • 2nd layer (lumbar support) – Memory foam lumbar support – this feature adds extra lumbar support in the center 3rd of the mattress and helps fend against sag where most of your body weight is on the mattress.
  • 3rd layer (comfort + support) – Wrapped Pocketed Coils– On top of the support coils is a layer of pocketed coils that aid in motion reduction and perform better for side sleepers.   There are 884 individual coils (Queen size).
  • 4th layer (support) – High profile traditional steel coils – Provides deep support for all body weights.  There are 416 individual coils (Queen size).
  • Edge support– Edge support system – This provides excellent edge support ensuring you can sleep close to the edge without getting a roll out of the bed feeling.

His & Hers Firmness & Feel

MY THOUGHTS (ROSS)

For me the Saatva was very impressive.  From the standpoint of a store owner I have seen everything and know what is a good value.  Saatva was the 1st online mattress where when I opened it up I though wow, this is really nice for what they charge for it.  Although many brands are nice this thing is on another level for thickness.  When you start to consider the amount of components that go into it compared to an all foam mattress.  It still have a lot of foam but also uses two different coil systems, so there’s a lot there for the money.

The Luxury Firm (medium) feel was great for all 3 sleeping positions and it slept cool.  Its great they offer 3 firmness levels so whatever your preference they will have something that will work.  In addition being able to order the thinner option for those of you that don’t want it so thick or plan to use an adjustable base, they have you covered as well.

The overall performance and feel vs price make this one of our top picks hands down.

HER THOUGHTS (KAYLA)

Like Ross, I was impressed with how much mattress is here for the cost.  I liked the more traditional feel for a change after reviewing so many foam mattresses.  I can see anyone who is looking for the traditional or hybrid feel liking this mattress.  For my weight (125) the medium mattress felt great. I still had enough body hug and pressure relief, although if I was buying it for myself I may have liked the soft better but the medium worked great for the two of us since Ross is heavier at (195ish).

I would recommend this to anyone considering an innerspring or hybrid mattress for sure.  Most people ordering the 14.5″ (thinner option if needed) I think will be excited to see this mattress in person and will be surprised at how thick and luxurious it is.

His & Hers Firmness & Feel

MY THOUGHTS (ROSS)

I enjoyed the Loom & Leaf for the following reasons.

A.) The quality of the build is above average for the online market space and that’s why its in our top picks.

B.) I tend to like mattresses that use a quilted top vs a zip on thin cover.

C.) It has fantastic body conformance without a stuck feeling, the quilt helps in this area in my opinion.

D.) The cooling features help ensure the mattress doesn’t get too hot.

E.) I like that its not another 10″ mattress, its more substantial making it also a good option for heavier people as well as lighter people.

F.) It’s available in 2 firmness options so depending on your sleeping position you can make a choice.

HER THOUGHTS (KAYLA)

Being only 125lbs I tend to like a mattress that is a tad softer than medium to conform better to my body being that I am lighter.  This mattress conformed very well for both of us even though its a true medium feel.  Next, this mattress just felt and looked luxurious.  I think it’s a great option for anyone who is looking for a higher end feel.  I think when you’re laying on this memory foam mattress that uses a quilt vs if you were just laying on a thin cover right on top of a slab of foam you feel a little more support and less of a quicksand feel.  I like the extra bounce the quilt adds, it makes it very easy to adjust positions as well as preventing you from having a sinking/stuck feeling that often times you can get on a memory foam mattress.

Saatva Temperature:

The Saatva performs well here.  Generally having a coil system rather than a foam core helps to begin with.  The top quilting foam gives you some separation as well and aids in air flow and also does not trap heat.  If you’re mattress is trapping heat you will noticeably feel the heat after laying back down. It is normal to feel some warmth on even the best mattress as they are not air conditioned and our bodies are warm, but it should not feel like a heat pad. I never experienced any excessive heat in those instances where I left the mattress mid night.

Loom & Leaf Temperature:

The Loom and Leaf fends against overheating gel infused memory foam, an organic cover that offers good air flow.  Additionally, the spinal gel in the center 3rd adds a lot of cooling benefits where most of your body heat is retained in the mattress.  I think the quilt helps a lot with cooling when you compare laying directly on a slab of foam with a thin cover.

Saatva Off Gassing:

These mattresses are not roll packed and use eco friendly foams.  Roll packing is what causes most off gassing so while you will have some “new mattress smell” its one of the best in this area.  Any smell will go away after a day or two.

Loom & Leaf Off Gassing:

These mattresses are not roll packed and use eco friendly foams.  Roll packing is what causes most off gassing so while you will have some “new mattress smell” its one of the best in this area.  Any smell will go away after a day or two.

Adjustable Base Performance:

Both the Saatva and Loom & Leaf will work great on an adjustable base.  BUT if you are getting Saatva and using a base order the thinner 11.5″ not he 14″

Overall Summary

Conclusion: We really like the Saatva brands. You are getting a legitimate mattress no matter which one you pick compared to dozens of other online brands that are a 10″ foam mattress for not much more money.

The biggest thing to consider is what type of feel you are after when choosing one or the other.

The Saatva is more of a traditional/hybrid mattress feel since it uses a coil unit inside. SO you will have better airflow and more bounce than a foam mattress.

The Loom & Leaf will have better pressure relief being foam and having more memory foam in it. What I like about this if you are after a foam mattress is that it uses a quilt on top of the memory foam so you don’t have as much sinkage or a stuck feeling as much as you can get with some memory foam mattresses where you lay directly on top of a memory foam slab with a thin cover.

Overall, these are two of the best all foam and innerspring options you can get.
