Nest Bedding Certified Organic Mattress Review

A new arrival onto the bed-in-a-box scene is the Nest Bedding fully certified and pure organic mattress. At first glance this seems to be a very well made, well put together nest mattress considering that all of the materials used to make it are natural.

We love the organic theme here and are desperate for this bed to score highly. It is only by making sound investments in firms that care about sustainability that we can preserve the future of the planet for generations to come. We like to see these kind of firms do well… but we will try not to let that influence our scoring!

Without any further hesitation let’s examine this mattress up close and personal, and see if it is as good as they make it out to be.

Branding

Nest Bedding are certainly all-in for their advertising campaigns – but they need to be. Given the costs it takes to manufacture these mattresses the price is high. If their advertising and digital marketing campaigns weren’t any good they would be out of business by now. Nest use refined colors and a sort of black and white themed logo all of which reflects their minimalistic approach in terms of material exposure… they won’t even let their assembly workers wear perfumes in the factory!

A lot of work has gone in to making sure this mattress reaches you in perfect condition. The treatment of the initial materials is taken extremely seriously. All of their beds are certified pure organic and this particular mattress also allows for individual firmness ratings… so we guess that might be a perk of paying so much.

Shipping is longer than usual with this firm because your bed will be made from scratch to your specifications. Truly; you can’t buy a more natural, opulent and pure mattress. It is up to you to decide whether or not the high price tag is worth the individual time and attention you receive throughout the process. The downside to this is that their site sports a solitary review, indicative of either a new company or a lack of sales. Since they were established in 2011 we can only assume that this particular mattress is new to their range as our investigations revealed a solid, steadfast company with a great reputation for high quality products.

You will like the Nest Bedding Latex Hybrid if you:

• Suffer from allergies and struggle to find bedding that doesn’t affect you.
• Want a hybrid mattress with a difference, inclusive of natural latex foam.
• Care greatly about your personal impact on the environment.
• Like the feel of memory foam but want a bed with a little bounce.
• Are a back, stomach or side sleeper!

You might not like Nest Bedding Latex Hybrid if you:

  • Prefer a foam mattress – Nest Bedding Latex Hybrid is made with coils and foam.  So if you prefer all foam you can look into on of their all foam options.

  • Have a super tight budget & don’t value real quality- Although the Nest Alexander Signature is a great value for how its made and how it specs out it’s still over $1500 for a queen (with our coupon).  So if you’re looking to go really cheap, you will need to look somewhere else.

Off Gassing

Off-gassing can be a bit misleading as a term. Any new product that you take home is going to smell a little like the place where it was packaged or stored. It is similar to the smell of a new pair of shoes or a new car and is not usually something to worry about. That being said if you are still worried you can opt for a CertiPUR-US certified mattress… or you can opt for the Nest Bedding organic version, which pretty much blows all the others out of the water.

While normally organic mattresses would tend to smell the most; this is not true of this mattress. Everything has been purified using ozone down to the very factory it is produced in – where the employees are not even allowed to wear strong perfume or deodorant! If you are very concerned about off-gassing then this is the only mattress that will fully satisfy you in this regard.

If there is a smell (although there won’t be) it won’t linger and won’t be noticeable once you put on your sheets and your protector.

We gave the Nest Bedding Certified Organic mattress a 10 out of 10 for off-gassing. It goes above and beyond to provide a smell free bed.

Motion Transfer

The natural latex top layers of this bed work to give you good motion reduction and isolation as you sleep. The nature of memory foam is that it will soak up and disperse any weight to relieve your pressure points, making it naturally fabulous to sleep on. That being said there is a little bounce in this bed due to the presence of latex in the foam. Latex has that little bit more resistance than a full foam bed would.

Added to this is the fact that this bed is a hybrid; meaning that it has a sprung layer towards the bottom that allows for resistance and stops you from falling right to the bottom of the mattress while you snooze. All these factors contribute towards a fairly responsive, supple mattress. Bear this in mind when you choose which softness you would like as it might be a little more firm than you expect in the upper firmness ratings.

Edge Support

Again; since the all-natural latex foam allows for a fair amount of resistance by comparison to other full foams; this mattress gives a little push back when you press down. There are multiple layers in this bed, all of which are meant to support you and spread your weight when you put pressure on it… even right out to the edges.

The individually pocketed coils are wrapped in the same blend of natural latex foam that is found in the upper layers. This means there is airflow between them, as well as plenty of support. Since this is the thickest layer of the mattress you will find that you never sink more than a third of the way into it. Of course, this will vary depending on your firmness choice, with the firmer mattress providing absolutely excellent edge support and the softer option slightly less so.

Delivery and Set-Up

Delivery of the Nest Bedding Certified Organic Mattress is usually free. It will be brought to your doorstep after up to ten days to make the mattress, and then a further five days for delivery times. When the mattress arrives it will be compressed, vacuum sealed and rolled up into a box. This method of shipping saves carbon emissions. When it arrives we recommend that you take it to the room that you want it to remain in, since it can be cumbersome to move once you have opened it.

Next, take a sharp tool and cut away both the outer box and the inner packaging. Be careful not to cut through the fabric of the bed in the process. Once all of the packaging has been removed the bed will start to decompress and you can stand back and watch!

Within 24 hours of removing the packaging your bed ought to be fully expanded, although it may take a little longer. You should be able to sleep on it before then with the aid of a mattress protector and sheets.

Customer Reviews

As you can imagine, this is a new mattress so reviews are thin on the ground – but overwhelmingly positive. Customers love it. Five Star reviewer Camilla says:

“They don’t say this on the site, but when I was speaking with a member of their team, they told me that this mattress is made in a certified clean facility where none of the staff are even allowed to wear perfume or cologne. This bed is simply amazing and I feel completely comfortable introducing this organic experience into my sleep life.

I tried the medium in store but ended up going with the softest version just because I like my mattress to hug me a little.”

Morgan H. says:

“Slightly more firm than expected, but comfortable nonetheless. I’ve had much better sleep since the switch to a hybrid mattress.”

And Nancy E. said:

“It’s a comfortable bed. It’s a LOT better than my last bed which broke down after only a month of sleeping on it.

Nest Bedding Certified Organic Mattress Construction

The Nest Bedding Certified Organic Mattress has a depth of 12 inches thick. The first layer is that GOTS certified organic wool/cotton mix which has been quilted for extra thickness and airflow. The cover is held in place with a solid zipper which allows for it to be removed and washed at home. Another touch that we appreciate. The second layer is your firmness layer, made out of fully organic GOLS certified natural rubber latex foam. This is the layer which will be adjusted to your firmness. At this point you have the option of adding a firmness layer for a fuller mattress with each layer costing extra.

Underneath the firmness layer (which is individually wrapped in cotton for added cushioning and airflow) you will find the spring layer. The pocket coil springs used are fully natural and organic, and are individually encased in cotton to fix them in place. Underneath this there is a 10 oz certified organic cotton layer to support the above structure. The final layer is a dense version of the firmness layer which provides support to the structure above.

As well as all of that attention to detail all of the materials used in the making of your mattress are certified pure by the Global Organic Textile Standard and/or the Global Organic Latex Standard. This is like CertiPUR-US in hyper drive. It is the best of the best. The sources are all sustainable, the mattress as pure as pure can be.

His and Hers – Firmness and Feel:

My thoughts (Ross)

How could this mattress not win at comfort and feel? Rather than having a set place on the firmness scale it comes as you like it. You can choose from soft, medium or hard, which is part of the reason the price tag is so high. Once you have made your decision the manufacturer will make your mattress especially for you. Every single mattress they make is tailored to suit the individual consumers needs… which is more than a little touch of luxury.

As well as a firmness rating you can choose from, the Nest Bedding Certified Organic mattress features an all-natural cover, quilted for added opulence. This is a woven blend of GOTS-certified Organic Wool and GOTS-certified Organic Cotton. There are no synthetic fibers to irritate your skin, no allergens and no added fire retardants… you can even watch the fire test!

When it comes to comfort and feel this is one of the best beds money can buy purely because of the ability to specify your own desired firmness rating before you buy – organic or not. You can try them out in their many stores before you buy, making it all the more likely you will get your dream sleep.

The Latex Hybrid Mattress impressed me for the following reasons.

A.) To me the overall build and quality is above average, like all of Nest Beddings products.

B.) The top comfort layers slept very cool.  Latex is great for that.

C.) It worked well in all sleeping positions.  Stomach sleepers may want to start with the firm.

E.) Lifetime Warranty and Lifetime Comfort Guarantee make it an excellent choice.

10 Very Firm

Temperature:

Latex tends to be one of the coolest foams out there.  Rather than adding chemically produced agents they have provided that soft, thick and quilted cover that allows for separation between yourself and the latex of the bed while you sleep. The natural wool and cotton blend on the cover will work to wick away sweat as you sleep and should see you kept cool. As a cover choice wool is very clever because it will soak moisture, stopping you from getting sweaty in the night.

As well as the cover there is temperature regulation through the multiple layers used to make up this mattress. Besides the layers it also has a pocket inner spring system, which allows air to move through the mattress even when compressed. With all of these features we feel confident enough to call this a temperature neutral mattress – but it isn’t a temperature regulated one. For these reasons this is one of the very few categories which this mattress doesn’t do perfectly in.

Adjustable Base Performance:

This mattress will work great on an adjustable base.  No worries here.

Overall Summary

I certainly like the Nest Bedding Latex Hybrid.  Its a great option for anyone looking for latex and a hybrid or anyone looking for a hybrid in general since you potentially can even substitute in a memory foam layer if latex doesn’t work out for you.

1st of all like most Nest products its a real, substantial mattress at 13″ thick.  The Quantum coil unit is a durable and great performing coil unit.

I know a lot of people like the idea of latex but have just never tried it.  Latex has several benefits, like sleeping cooler and lasting longer.  The amazing thing on this mattress is the fact that you can change the latex firmness if needed and even to memory foam if you discover latex just wasn’t for you.
