Helix Midnight Mattress Review

Did you know we spend 26 years of our lives asleep? So, the right mattress is essential. So, is Helix worth the hype?

We had a look at all of the most reliable reviews and blended them with our personal experience to create the most comprehensive guide to allow you to make the best choice and give you the best night sleep!

Helix uses several layers to create their mattresses, giving a wide range of personalisation and tailoring the bed to meet your individual needs. What’s more is that you can combine comfort levels between partners, ensuring you and your loved one get the best night sleep.

What to Look For?

So, what should you look for in a mattress? Before we get into the review, let us look at what you should be looking for.

The first thing we think you should look at is the firmness and support that the mattress provides. This all depends on how you sleep. For side sleepers, we recommend either a softer mattress or a medium. Back sleepers should look for Medium/Medium Firm, and if you like to sleep on your front, you should be looking for a firm mattress as this offers the most support for your spine.

Construction is the next thing you should consider, whether you go for a foam mattress, a hybrid, or a traditional spring mattress. Memory foam moulds to your body and spread your weight over the bed rather than in one place. Spring mattresses offer a lot of support and a bouncy feel, which sleep ‘cooler’ than your typical memory foam mattress. Hybrids are a nice balance between the two.

Durability is probably the most significant thing we think you should consider. We believe a good quality mattress should last eight years before it needs replacing; this can be longer if you rotate your mattress every six months to ensure even wear.

How well the mattress regulates your temperature is also an excellent thing to consider when purchasing your new mattress. Generally, memory foam mattresses retain heat, making them perfect for the winter or needing that extra warmth. Whereas pocket sprung mattresses tend to be cooler as they have better airflow. This is something to think about.

It would be best to look for one that spreads your body weight evenly, relieving pressure on sore spots like your back, shoulder and hips. If you get the wrong mattress, you can wake up painful and uncomfortable and not sleep as well as you could.

We think the last thing you should consider when purchasing your mattress is the warranty it comes with. The majority of beds are covered up to ten years after you buy them. The top of the range mattresses can exceed twenty years. Mattresses that come with a short warranty indicate that the company is not confident in their mattress or the lifespan.

So, now we know what makes a good buy, let us have a look at the Helix and see how well it fares up and see if this may be the right mattress for you.

Branding

Helix offers a mattress that is entirely made to order. This is founded on the idea that everyone’s sleep is personal to them, so they should have a personalised bed that fulfil their needs and requirements.

Helix has revolutionised a system that traditional we feel was a little awkward, with an unpleasant showroom experience. Their goal was to change this. By showing an understanding that mattresses were not one size fits all, they can tap into the market that was crying out for persona mattresses. That would solve their customer problems.

They understood that when buying a large purchase like a mattress, a lot of consideration and research needed to happen. Helix was able to help their customers by providing all the relevant knowledge without any of the ‘fluff’ that many other companies were trying to push.

Besides focusing on providing the best night sleep by customisation, Helix researched and developed the best materials and massively invested in developing the best mattress that they could.

With this high level of customer care and understanding of their needs, we had no choice but to give them a high mark. It’s a 9/10 for us.

Delivery, Unboxing & Set-up

After ordering, you need to wait ten days on average to receive your brand-new mattress. If you live in the US, you benefit from free shipping, though from what we discovered, you may need to wait for a little if you live outside the US and Canada.

When you receive your mattress, we recommend taking it into the bedroom before diving in. This is because your lovely new bed can weigh between 50 and 145 lbs. Arriving in a box and vacuum sealed, all you need to do is take a sharp knife and cut away the outer box and the inner wrapping. Step back. Watch your mattress expand into life.

It will possibly take up to 24 hours to expand fully, so make sure you have a backup plan in case it is not fully extended. In our experience, it’s never taken that long. We’ve been snuggled up in our new mattress the night we get it.

You Like the Helix Midnight Mattress if You:

  • Love and value a customizable shopping experience
  • You love memory foam but don’t like the feeling of getting stuck
  • You like the support and bounce of springs but don’t want to give up movement
  • You and your partner have different sleep needs
  • When you are looking for a mattress, you need to consider how much relief the bed would give you. Getting this right will mean that you wake up refreshed and ache-free, which is what we all want. The
  • If you’re a back sleeper, then this mattress could be a good fit. We feel there is adequate support and no point of your body has any high-pressure acting upon it. This will result in less or no pain in the morning because your body is being supported properly.
  • If you are a side sleeper, again, this mattress should be the perfect fit for you. The shoulders and hips, we feel, have more than enough support. They can sink into the mattress without any major sore spots in the morning.

You Might Not Like the Helix Midnight Mattress if You:

  • Prefer to sleep on your stomach; we found this may be too soft for this sleeping position.
  • Are heavier than the average sleeper. People over 350lbs may struggle with this particular mattress, as they may struggle with lack of support or durability.

Comfort & Feel

The one thing we love when settling into a bed is that sinking feeling or the feeling that the bed is giving us a warm hug. That is precisely what you get when you get this mattress. Helix uses a combination that feels like a cross between memory foam and a latex mattress, and this gives you the warm sinking feeling we all love and that extra support that other memory foam mattress doesn’t provide you.

Along with the warm feeling you get when you sink into a Helix mattress, you get the option to add extra support to your bed, allowing extra comfort if you are bigger or taller than the average person. Why should you miss out on luxury? We think you shouldn’t.

Using a secret blend in their memory foam mattresses, they can create a dynamic foam that offers the support and comfort that consumers need. The most popular firmness level is Medium. This provides a bed that is not too firm but also not too soft. Great if you have a partner who has different needs to you. You can create a mattress that works for both of you.

Pressure Relief

When you are looking for a mattress, you need to consider how much relief the bed would give you. Getting this right will mean that you wake up refreshed and ache-free, which is what we all want. The Helix Sunset performs well for people who like to sleep on their back or sides. We would not recommend this mattress for stomach sleepers as we don’t think it offers adequate support for your spine.

If you’re a back sleeper, then this mattress could be a good fit. We feel there is adequate support and no point of your body has any high-pressure acting upon it. This will result in less or no pain in the morning because your body is being supported properly.

If you are a side sleeper, again, this mattress should be the perfect fit for you. The shoulders and hips, we feel, have more than enough support. They can sink into the mattress without any major sore spots in the morning.

We don’t think that this mattress is suitable for stomach sleepers as we feel that this mattress can throw your spine out of line, causing issues in the morning where you may have a sore lower back. This pain can affect the quality of your sleep.

Motion Isolation

Hybrid mattresses with pocketed independent coils are a huge improvement on a traditional innerspring but not quite as good as an all foam. The motion transfer on this mattress is pretty good. You will not feel a ton of movement but will feel some. It’s not something that should be concerning or make your choice difficult. For a heavier person I would not recommend an all foam mattress anyway.

Off Gassing

Helix is a CertiPUR mattress. Given that the CertiPUR certification is a voluntary one, it shows that this mattress is entirely safe. The slight smell that you may get off your brand-new mattress is simply due to manufacturing. We always recommend CertiPUR mattresses to anyone worried about chemical and toxins, and the Helix fits this profile perfectly. Both the dynamic foam and the polyfoam used are considered very safe and will have little impact on your home’s air quality. Any smell usually dissipates and diminish in a couple of days, leaving you well-rested and refreshed.

We gave the Helix 10/10 for off-gassing because they have done everything to ensure that the mattress is non-toxic and safe.

Edge Support

One of the drawbacks to a traditional foam mattress is the lack of support around the edges. With the Helix foam, you don’t get that. Helix offers extra support and extra reinforcement around the edges. This provides comfort and support if you prefer to sleep nearer the edge of the bed. Or you are putting your socks on, ready for the day.

The added support around the edge solves the problem that most memory foam mattresses have, sagging. The base offers consistent support from one side of the bed to the other. We think this is vital in a good night’s sleep, as you are guaranteed support, whether you sleep in the centre of the bed or more towards the edge. Perfect for you couples out there.

You may notice the edge of the bed compress and sink when you either sit on or move over the edge, but don’t worry. This is normal for a foam mattress. It’ll spring back into place, looking as good as new. Most of the people we found said that they still felt supported no matter their size and weight. This is due to the Helix being a hybrid mattress. The hybrid mattresses often have better support and durability because they have a layer of springs, helping you get the best night sleep you can.

Helix Midnight Mattress Construction

Let us delve into the materials that make this mattress so comfy. The Helix’s overall construction is geared towards offering maximum comfort and the ability to keep cool at night. This is due to Tencel Air Flow Technology. It is developed and designed to wick moisture away from the body and keep you cool as possible.

At the base, you get a layer of high-grade polyfoam that you have the option of choosing firmness and support! This high-grade foam can last many years and stand up to all those restful nights sleeps you will be sure to have.

Added to this foam, you get a layer of support coils, which provides pressure relief to weary bones. They do what foam alone cannot achieve. They provide the bounce and buoyancy that owners of traditional mattresses enjoy so often.

Helix Midnight Mattress Cover

This mattress also comes with a soft and breathable knit cover that helps to provide even more comfort for when you fall asleep.

HELIX MIDNIGHT MATTRESS FOUNDATION

The tulo liv will work great on any solid surface. The floor, platform slats, boxspring/foundation and they now offer an adjustable base as well.

Softness-firmness Level: 6.5
1 Very Soft
5 Medium
10 Very Firm

Temperature:

The Helix is made with Tencel Air Flow Technology. This is a highly breathable and environmentally friendly fabric that allows for maximum airflow around your body. This means a lovely, excellent night sleep, which keeps you fresh all night long.

The air isn’t trapped in the mattress as it does in some other beds. Made with a removable cover and a special second layer, it creates what Helix likes to call their two-touch design. This allows for still more airflow and freshness to your night sleep.

If all that wasn’t enough, you have to include their Ultra-Cool Cover, designed with coolness in mind. This cover allows the body to remain cool during the night, eliminating the amount of sweating and helping you stay asleep much longer.

Adjustable Base Performance:

The tulo liv will work great on a base being an all foam mattress.

Customer Reviews:

Overall, the Helix Sunset has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. And we have to agree with hundreds of happy, verified buyers that this is a perfect mattress.

Alisha G. says,

“A very comfortable mattress that blows the competition out of the water. It has outstanding support while still being plush. I was surprised at how plush the mattress was when compared to other hybrid or memory foam mattresses. The only con we have about this mattress is the edge support; it has a bit of give on the edges, so you slide off the edge if sitting on it.”

Lauryn A. adds,

“Amazing customer service and great turn around time! I went with what I thought, and I was WRONG. Go with the QUIX RESULT, and you won’t be disappointed. I had to return the first mattress, which was too firm for me. If you love a soft mattress, the Helix Sunset is perfect for 130 lbs, small people who sleep on their back or side. No regrets!”

Sheree H. says,

“I ordered the XL TWIN Soft. I LOVE IT! My hip and shoulder pain hasn’t bothered me since. My husband ordered the medium-firm. It was too hard for his shoulder pain, so he loved mine too. He reordered the soft…. we are old.”

And Emily H. loves her new mattress,

“We are loving our Helix Sunset mattress. I didn’t realise how badly we needed a new one. Every night I look forward to lying down. It is so soft yet supportive where I need it. Definitely recommend.”

But we think that Koko W. says all that you need to know about this mattress. Koko says,

“I love my Helix Sunset so much! It’s like sleeping on a cloud. I used to have awful back pain, but it has just disappeared on the first day I slept on the Helix. The softness is just so perfect. This is one of the greatest decisions I ever made.”

The biggest issue that we had found when looking through was that the mattress was not the right firmness for that person’s needs. But all that we need to do is take the Helix sleep quiz to find out the perfect mattress for you.

So, for customer reviews, we’d give the Helix Sunset 9/10.

Helix Nightfall Mattress Warranty and More

  • Warranty – 10 Years

Helix Sleep offer some great trials and warranties on their mattresses so we were a little surprised to see that this mattress comes with a 100 night risk free, no obligation trial of the mattress. While this is a fairly good deal it is industry standard… meaning that it’s pretty much the same deal as you would expect from the other big brands. In fact; we have almost become used to the extra 10 nights most are now offering.

As for warranty; the Nightfall comes with a ten year guarantee. While this also sounds great it is the same result as last time. We like to see lifetime guarantees to score that perfect ten. We did also notice that they throw in free shipping which is a nice touch. Their warranty covers things like sagging (as long as a proper base has been used) tears in the fabric and indentations that won’t go away – basically any construction defaults with the bed. If something does go wrong, however, they will pick it up and replace it all for free.
