Summary
This mattress is designed for side sleepers!
Despite having a bit of a mouthful of a name, first impressions of this mattress are pretty positive. It looks like it is of a suave design. We are intrigued to find out how a mattress can be both gentle and firm at the same time, and also stricken by how darn good it looks. This is the kind of mattress you could proudly leave uncovered and people wouldn’t say anything – although we would never recommend that you do that, of course.
So let’s examine some of the different aspects of the iComfort mattress and see what it looks like when compared to other brands.
Branding
Serta advertise themselves as the number one manufacturer in America so that is a lot of expectation they set themselves up for. The website looks sleek and efficient, the colors used are attention grabbing and sophisticated and they advertise freely that all of their wares are one hundred percent American made.
They do offer frequent discounts and are a well known name in the industry… such things might be important if buying a mattress with a long guarantee since there would be no point in a lifetime guarantee if the company then goes bust.
Delivery of the iComfort is usually free and the bed should be with you within 8-10 working days after you have placed your order. They also offer free returns in the unlikely event that you need to send the mattress back again. All of Serta’s mattresses are now delivered in the same way – vacuum sealed and in a box for your ease of use! This method of transportation takes up less space and therefore reduces the carbon footprint of your bed… and don’t forget that the iComfort was built and delivered from elsewhere in the States to keep that footprint as low as possible.
Once you are in possession of your mattress we recommend that you take it to the room that you want to place it in before you open it up. This will save effort and smooth the process. Take a sharp tool and cut away the outer box and the inner plastic, taking extra care not to accidentally cut through the fabric of the bed as you do so. Once the packaging has been peeled away you can step back and watch as your new mattress starts to expand!
The mattress will take up to 24 hours to fully expand – but don’t worry, you will be able to sleep on it before then. By the second night you sleep on it the mattress will be fully expanded and you will have the sleep you have been craving.
We gave the iComfort Blue a 10 out of 10 for delivery and setup because they really have thought it all through.
Being a store owner I am very familiar with Serta and the iComfort lines. They make a good product with quality foams.
The top layer of this mattress is actually a cooling foam layer, as is the second layer. It is a medium to firm rating on the hardness scale meaning that although it is a full foam bed it does not give way to your body just as much as some others might. Users describe how they lie on top of this mattress, rather than sinking into it. Many of them also tout the benefits for those with back pain as this is a very supportive mattress with a Strong core.
They have used a lot of patented materials to compose this bed, one of which is the EverCool Gel Fuze technology that is in the second to the top layer. This layer molds to your form while simultaneously allowing for a highly breathable, stretching foam that keeps you cool while it shapes to you. There isn’t a lot of spring to this mattress – in fact, there isn’t any at all – but that means for better resistance to motion transfer.
This bed does a lot for motion reduction and so scored better here than it has previously. Full memory foam beds often have the ability to soak up and disperse movement across a wider area because that is their nature. They do not have the springs in the core that make you bounce around in the night and by removing these springs you remove the motion, simple.
This can be a bit misleading in itself. The term off-gassing simply means that your new mattress might have a bit of a smell. It isn’t toxic fumes and it won’t harm you; but there are some people who can’t sleep if the scent of the mattress is too strong. It is important to realize that this is nothing to worry about and that any scent won’t linger longer than 36 hours.
This is very similar to buying a new car or new shoes and taking them home. At first they will smell differently because the materials are freshly cut and because they have been stored in a factory or warehouse before they reach you. Once the products have been in your possession for a few days the smell fades and it starts to smell like your home instead. Oddly, it is natural and organic mattresses that tend to smell the worst since the natural materials are more likely to soak up the smells of their surroundings.
So – don’t worry about off-gassing! Within a maximum of 36 hours you shouldn’t notice it at all and, if you use a mattress protector and sheets you shouldn’t notice any smell at all before then.
We gave the iComfort a 10 out of 10 for off-gassing, there is barely any smell at all.
The edge support found in this mattress is about average when it comes to foam mattresses. The feel and firmness is consistent throughout the entire mattress, including the edges, but like with all mattresses made out of the foam the edges are prone to dipping down when bearing direct weight for extended periods of time.
All in all, the edge support is adequate as long as you’re not someone who sleeps right on the edge of the bed every single night; the edges of the mattress will also lose their shape more quickly if you sit right on the edge frequently as well.
This is another are where Serta have excelled. The fact that all of the materials are shipped into the USA before construction works in their favor as does the full memory foam choices they have made. On the top layer the iComfort relies on a ¾ inch layer of TempActive Gel Memory foam. This is designed to keep you cool while molding to your shape but can be a little cool to the touch. This is because there is a second layer of cooling foam underneath it. This layer is 2 inches of Evercool Fuzed gel cooling memory foam. Both of these layers work together to promote breathability and temperature regulation while conforming to your shape.
Underneath these top two layers is a one inch thick layer of responsive memory foam that is designed to be firmer than the other layers and ultimately makes you comfortable while stopping you from sinking to the bottom of the mattress. Beneath this is the core structure of supportive and dense foam that they call the Serta Ultimate Edge Foam Core. This foam does have a little edge support built in but it is the only layer to do so. The whole mattress stands at a curious 93/4 inches tall… a strange choice in a world where everyone loves even numbers.
When it comes to materials the makers of the iComfort certainly seem to have spent the time, effort and money needed to research and develop a very effective foam bed. They have committed themselves to it even knowing the pitfalls of doing so, which we think was a pretty brave choice. We gave the iComfort a 9 out of 10 for materials because they did pretty well.
This mattress also comes with a soft and breathable knit cover that helps to provide even more comfort for when you fall asleep.
The tulo liv will work great on any solid surface. The floor, platform slats, boxspring/foundation and they now offer an adjustable base as well.

This is one of the categories that the iComfort Blue actually excels in. The creators knew that a full memory foam bed would have temperature problems and so they tried to rectify the problem by adding not one, but two layers of coolant technology to fight back against air flow issues. This managed to earn them a perfectly cool bed that might even be too cool for some. Both their TempCool layer and their Evercool Fuze layer of gel memory foams work together not only to shape to the contours of your body, but also to provide a firm, cool place to rest that wicks away heat as you sleep.
If you are a hot sleeper but still want the benefits of a full memory foam mattress then the iComfort is an excellent choice in that department, It contours and cools, as well as having four separate layers which promotes air flow under you as you sleep. Our only complaint is that we would have liked to see a layer of something a little plusher on the top so that the cooling technology wasn’t quite so close to our skin when we lay down. That being said, it is evident the team at Serta have put a lot of research time into cooling that mattress down.
We gave the iComfort Blue 100 mattress a 9.5 out of 10 for temperature regulation. We couldn’t give the full ten as this is not a mattress that caters to everyone’s needs. If you sleep hot, however, this is a pretty solid choice.
The tulo liv will work great on a base being an all foam mattress.
Haley Young says:
“I bought through the dealer, and was first time purchasing. It is very comfortable, and satisfied.”
While Rudy H says:
“My wife and I used to sleep on a queen-sized Sealy firm innerspring mattress. Frankly, we had no problems sleeping on it, but it was 12 years old and starting to squeak. The kids use it as a trampoline.. We wanted a king for a growing family, and were interested in memory foam for its many benefits. We especially like how it doesn’t transfer movement so much, allowing one of us to get in or out of bed without waking the other. But we aren’t fans of plush covers or soft foam that seems to “hug” you after settling in. We like a firm mattress that still feels soft. At first we liked the Blue Touch 300, but eventually favored the 100 for its softer feel. Notably, we are each of modest stature and under 160lb, so don’t really need a deeper mattress for support. So far we love it.”
And Tom M says:
“Very comfortable to sleep on, contours to body . Last mattress was memory foam this replaced it no back aches on the icomfort blue 100.”
