Nectar Vs Casper Mattress Comparison

A side by side comparison of Casper vs Nectar mattress in 2018

Our Unbiased Comparison

Casper was one of the pioneering online mattress companies and many have come out to try and “one-up” them.  Nectar is a newer company that has grown extremely quick.  Initially, they had issues with inventory because of demand and had recently ramped up production to keep up.  Nectar is very impressive for the price.

Quick Overview

Nectar Review

Founded in 2014, the company quickly rose to become a prominent name in the mattress industry. Most of the times, the company successfully achieved its goal by making affordable yet high-quality products for the customers. Ever since the company was founded in 2014, it has earned numerous prestigious awards for the quality of its mattresses.

Initially, they were a USA-based company. However, their expansion has grown north into Canada in recent years. However, most of their products are still manufactured in the US.

The purple initially originated from a Kickstarter campaign and was founded in 2015. It sold its first mattress in 2016. Since that time, this plucky underdog had witnessed a meteoric rise going atop of everyone in the mattress industry because of their unique and innovative products offering such features that no one else did. Purple is a fully USA-based company which was founded by two brothers who were based in Utah. The Purple’s products have been incredibly successful and today, this company is valued at more than one billion dollars!

  • Want a mattress will quality materials for a good price.  The Nectar is one the best made mattresses we have come across for the price.  Build quality, warranty, trial period and the overall feel are above average.
  • Area person who likes the Tempurpedic mattress feel.  Nectar rivals the feel of some Tempurpedic mattresses but you won’t pay the hefty up-charge for the brand name.
  • Sleep hot.  The Nectars gel infused memory foam helped to keep the mattress cooler than a traditional memory foam.
  • Are interested in buying online but worried you won’t like your choice – try Nectar.  You get an entire year to test if this mattress suits you!
  • Will be using an adjustable base.  If you own or plan to buy an adjustable base at some point the Layla performs well on the base.  It bends easily and lays back to the flat position once you are finished inclining.
  • Value a forever warranty mattress – Who wouldn’t!?

Casper Review

  • Like a mattress to sleep cool – Foam mattresses can sleep warm.  However, the design of the Casper with latex on top and memory foam on bottom helps it disperse heat efficiently.  I did not experience excessive heat at all.
  • Sleep in multiple positions – Casper suits you – This mattress is a good medium feel with good body conformance.  Sleeping on your side, back or stomach Casper will conform to your body very well.
  • Like the combo of bounce and body conformance – With the latex layer on top Casper maintains good bounce which makes it easier to adjust positions and not feel stuck.
  • Sleep hot. Casper’s memory foam down a layer so you won’t experience heat being trapped in the top layer.  We did not get hot on Casper at all.

  • Are someone who prefers a coiled mattress.  If you have tested foam mattresses and don’t like them, I don’t believe the Layla will change your mind on that preference.
  • Prefer a very soft mattress.  Nectar has more of a medium to medium firm feel.  I like to sell mattresses that start a little firmer as they will break in and get softer over time.  Nectar will do the same.
  • Want a innerspring mattress – It can take time to get used to a foam mattress, if you already know you don’t like all foam mattresses you should stick with a coiled mattress. The Casper is a comfortable mattress but it won’t probably transform you from a spring fan to a foam fan.
  • Want a tall extra thick mattress set – Nectar is a 11″ mattress so if you want a taller mattress look somewhere else.

Casper Review

  • Are 280lbs or more – I would recommend something different if you are a heavier sleeper.
  • Do a lot of activities sitting on the edge of the bed – Sitting on the edge the mattress sinks down about average for a foam bed.  If a very sturdy sitting edge is important to you you may want to consider something with foam encased edges or a border wire (coiled/spring mattress primarily). Laying on the edge was not an issue however, you still have the entire sleep surface usable.  (see video for demo)
  • Want a innerspring mattress – It can take time to get used to a foam mattress, if you already know you don’t like all foam mattresses you should stick with a coiled mattress. The Casper is a comfortable mattress but it won’t probably transform you from a spring fan to a foam fan.

Construction:

Nectar Review

  • 11″ Thick
  • The cover is made of Tencel fiber which is a soft and very breathable material. It sleeps cooler than cotton and helps wick away moisture.
  • Top layer quilted gel foam layer. It give the mattress a unique feel and provides great pressure relief & aids in cooling
  • 3rd layer that is a layer of cooling gel infused memory foam.
  • The fourth layer is what they call Hi Core Memory Foam. This is a dense foam that also is great for pressure relief.
  • Finally, the base layer is a rigid layer of foam for support.

Casper Review

  • 10″ Thick
  • 1st Layer: Comfort & Temperature Control – The top layer consists of one and a half inches,  latex foam that is made to be responsive, and does not retain body heat.
  • 2nd Layer: Pressure Relief, Support & Additional Heat Dispersion – The middle layer consists of 1.5″, memory foam.
  • 3rd Layer: 1.5″ poly foam
  • 4th Layer: 5″ Foam Core

His & Hers Firmness & Feel

My Thoughts (Ross)

Nectar Review

Overall the Nectar mattress is one of the best we have tested, especially for the price.

What is above average on the Nectar is the build, quilted gel, a Hi Core Memory foam as a transitional layer vs just a poly foam layer.  The above average foam core.  It uses a 2.2ILD vs the average 1.8.

In addition, the 365 night trial and Forever Warranty are very impressive.

As a store owner I like to sell medium to medium firm mattresses vs super soft.  The reason being they will not develop body impressions as easily and therefore you will have less warranty issues down the road.   I think Nectar modeled their feel based on a similar thought.

You will like the Nectar if you want that 6-7 out of 10 with 10 being the firmest.  Also you need to like a true memory foam feel.  It has very body conformance and pressure relief.

Casper Review

The Casper Mattress is about a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.  With the top latex layers fast response it is easy to adjust sleeping positions.

Casper has good body conformance and is easy to adjust positions on with the poly layer being on top it has good bounce.  They took the latex out of the top layer recently which in my opinion does not necessarily making the mattress better.

Her thoughts (Kayla)

Nectar Review

I primarily sleep on my side.  The Nectar felt great for my hips and shoulder.  It’s got a firmness to it but once you lay there for a few seconds the foam reacts and you sink in a bit and it conforms very well.  Generally I like a softer mattress but this worked well for me in all 3 positions and has very good motion reduction too.  You can tell it has above average foams and foam core just by laying down if you have tested many like we have.  I really recommend this for anyone looking for a good deal and anyone looking for  the memory foam feel.

Casper Review

The Casper performed well for me.  I am also lighter at 125lbs.  The top poly layer supports your lower back very well and bounces back quickly if you adjust positions.  I’m always worried about motion transfer since Ross moves around a lot.  Like most foam beds the Casper has very little motion transfer.

Nectar vs Casper Temperature Assessment

Nectar Review

Nectar performed well for dissipating heat.  It uses gel infused memory foam that does not trap heat nearly as much as regular memory foam.   We did not get overly warm at all.

Casper Review

The Casper had no problems with sleeping hot.  The design with 1.5″ of poly over the memory foam helps this mattress with heat dispersion.

Adjustable Base Performance:

Both the Nectar & Casper will work great on an adjustable base.

Conclusion

Overall Summary

Overall the Nectar mattress is one of the best we have tested, especially for the price.

What is above average on the Nectar is the build, quilted gel, a Hi Core Memory foam as a transitional layer vs just a poly foam layer. The above average foam core. It uses a 2.2PCF vs the average 1.8.

In addition, the 3365-night trial and Forever Warranty are very impressive.

As a store owner, I like to sell medium to medium-firm mattresses vs super soft. The reason being they will not develop body impressions as easily and therefore you will have fewer warranty issues down the road. I think Nectar modeled their feel based on a similar thought.

You will like the Nectar if you want that 6-7 out of 10 with 10 being the firmest. Also, you need to like a true memory foam feel. It has very body conformance and pressure relief.

Nectar truly is a very good value.

The Casper is super popular and has tons of good reviews too. As they raised the capital they were able to advertise like crazy. You might like the Casper better if you want a little more bounce. The Casper has a performance poly layer above the memory foam so its has a little more bounce.
