Helix Sunset Mattress Review
Helix is a brand of mattress that wants to bring customisation into mattress shopping. They believe that your mattress should be personal to your specific needs and desires. All their mattresses are made with 100% organic products, and each mattress is handmade to a high standard – meaning you get the best night sleep possible.
The Helix Sunset usually retails for around $599 or £429.91 one-off payment or as low as $59 or £42.35p per month if you choose for a twin mattress (the smallest mattress they offer) ranging up to $1,299 or £932.59p one-off payment or monthly fee as low as $121 or £86.87p. There is a range of sizes, so you are sure to find one that suits your needs. You have the option when you buy your new bed to include some extra options, but these aren’t necessary, and your mattress will still be as high-quality as it should be.
You can choose to upgrade to the Helix Sunset Luxe, but again this is optional. Each mattress is excellent in its own right, and we love the Helix Sunset.
Helix makes their entirely made to order. This is founded on the idea that everyone’s sleep is personal to them, so they should have a personalised bed that fulfil their needs and requirements.
Helix has revolutionised a system that traditional we feel was a little awkward, with an unpleasant showroom experience. Their goal was to change this. By showing an understanding that mattresses were not one size fits all, they can tap into the market that was crying out for persona mattresses. That would solve their customer problems.
They understood that when buying a large purchase like a mattress, a lot of consideration and research needed to happen. Helix was able to help their customers by providing all the relevant knowledge without any of the ‘fluff’ that many other companies were trying to push.
Besides focusing on providing the best night sleep by customisation, Helix researched and developed the best materials and massively invested in developing the best mattress that they could.
Delivery, Unboxing & Set-up
After ordering, you need to wait ten days on average to receive your brand-new mattress. If you live in the US, you benefit from free shipping, though from what we discovered, you may need to wait for a little if you live outside the US and Canada.
When you receive your mattress, we recommend taking it into the bedroom before diving in. This is because your lovely new bed can weigh between 50 and 145 lbs. Arriving in a box and vacuum sealed, all you need to do is take a sharp knife and cut away the outer box and the inner wrapping. Step back. Watch your mattress expand into life.
It will possibly take up to 24 hours to expand fully, so make sure you have a backup plan in case it is not fully extended. In our experience, it’s never taken that long. We’ve been snuggled up in our new mattress the night we get it.
You Like the Helix Sunset Mattress if You:
- When you are looking for a mattress, you need to consider how much relief the bed would give you. Getting this right will mean that you wake up refreshed and ache-free, which is what we all want. The Helix Sunset performs well for people who like to sleep on their back or sides. We would not recommend this mattress for stomach sleepers as we don’t think it offers adequate support for your spine.
- If you’re a back sleeper, then this mattress could be a good fit. We feel there is adequate support and no point of your body has any high-pressure acting upon it. This will result in less or no pain in the morning because your body is being supported properly.
- If you are a side sleeper, again, this mattress should be the perfect fit for you. The shoulders and hips, we feel, have more than enough support. They can sink into the mattress without any major sore spots in the morning.
- We don’t think that this mattress is suitable for stomach sleepers as we feel that this mattress can throw your spine out of line, causing issues in the morning where you may have a sore lower back. This pain can affect the quality of your sleep.
You Might Not Like the Helix Sunset Mattress if You:
- Prefer to sleep on your stomach; we found this may be too soft for this sleeping position.
- Are heavier than the average sleeper. People over 250lbs may struggle with this particular mattress, as they may struggle with lack of support or durability.
Comfort & Feel
One of the essential things about buying a new mattress is how comfortable it is or how firm it is. This all depends on you as a sleeper, as we are all different and have unique needs. What might be for you may be uncomfortable for us. Keep this in mind.
We think this mattress, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being firm) the Helix Sunset; we feel it rates 4-5. The standard mattress, being medium, falls at around 6-7. This rating means that the Helix Sunset is a soft mattress.
The memory foam feels very comfortable and provides excellent support and pressure relief for anyone experiencing discomfort. We feel this is perfect for anyone who loves to sleep on their side or back as it provides good contouring and molds to your body. If you’re a stomach sleeper, we suggest looking for a mattress that offers the support you need, which may be lacking for you.

Helix is a CertiPUR mattress. Given that the CertiPUR certification is a voluntary one, it shows that this mattress is entirely safe. The slight smell that you may get off your brand-new mattress is simply due to manufacturing. We always recommend CertiPUR mattresses to anyone worried about chemical and toxins, and the Helix fits this profile perfectly. Both the dynamic foam and the polyfoam used are considered very safe and will have little impact on your home’s air quality. Any smell usually dissipates and diminish in a couple of days, leaving you well-rested and refreshed.
We gave the Helix 10/10 for off-gassing because they have done everything to ensure that the mattress is non-toxic and safe.
Even though the Helix sunset is a soft mattress, we feel it doesn’t lack support. This is especially true for the edges. We found that this mattress offered decent support towards the edge of the bed when we were lying down. One problem that may arise is sitting on the edge. We found that we sank more than other mattresses when sitting, and it could be challenging to get off if you struggle.
We feel the average person or sleeper won’t have too much difficulty, however. The Sunset offers enough support, so we didn’t feel like we were falling out of bed.
So, for decent edge support, we would give the Helix Sunset 9/10. Since some people may slip off the bed whilst sitting, you’ll have to try it and see what you think as we are all different.
Helix Sunset Mattress Construction
The Helix Sunset is made up of many layers of different foams and pocket layers. As a hybrid mattress, it spans the best of both worlds in terms of traditional mattresses and memory foam mattresses.
The cover of the Helix Sunset is made using 100% polyester, providing a soft feel. The cover has been designed to promote airflow, which we felt helps stop overheating during the night.
Sitting just below the cover is a layer of memory foam, Helix calls this Memory Plus Foam, and its job is to provide support and relief to your joints, making a comfortable night sleep.
Below this is made up of Helix’s Dynamic Foam. This foam provides extra support and a plush and soft feel.
The second to last layer provides the most support as the hundreds of coils provide a bouncy feel and provides the sensation of being in a cradle. This layer is also where you find the edge support reinforced around the perimeter to give a solid feel.
The last layer to the bed is the base layer. This is comprised of Helix’s DuraDense Foam. This provides support for the entire mattress giving you the overall firmness to the bed.

Firmness and Feel:
My Thoughts (Ross)
Her Thoughts (Kayla)
1 Very Soft
1 10 Very Firm
Thanks to the overall design and build of the Helix Sunset, we think it does an incredible job at keeping us cool when we sleep. The breathable cover that comes with it does an excellent job at allowing air throughout the mattress, which aids in cooling us down by taking the body heat away.
The fabric that Helix use also acts to wick sweat away from the body. This wicking helps move sweat from the body and into the outside air. It will cool you down and ensure that you wake up fresher.
The separate coils also allow air through, which means that hot air doesn’t get trapped in the mattress. If you want even more cooling, we would suggest getting the luxe model, but we feel the Sunset does an excellent job without all the extra features. No more sweaty nights for you!
Adjustable Base Performance:
The tulo liv will work great on a base being an all foam mattress.
Overall, the Helix Sunset has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. And we have to agree with hundreds of happy, verified buyers that this is a perfect mattress.
Alisha G. says,
“A very comfortable mattress that blows the competition out of the water. It has outstanding support while still being plush. I was surprised at how plush the mattress was when compared to other hybrid or memory foam mattresses. The only con we have about this mattress is the edge support; it has a bit of give on the edges, so you slide off the edge if sitting on it.”
Lauryn A. adds,
“Amazing customer service and great turn around time! I went with what I thought, and I was WRONG. Go with the QUIX RESULT, and you won’t be disappointed. I had to return the first mattress, which was too firm for me. If you love a soft mattress, the Helix Sunset is perfect for 130 lbs, small people who sleep on their back or side. No regrets!”
Sheree H. says,
“I ordered the XL TWIN Soft. I LOVE IT! My hip and shoulder pain hasn’t bothered me since. My husband ordered the medium-firm. It was too hard for his shoulder pain, so he loved mine too. He reordered the soft…. we are old.”
And Emily H. loves her new mattress,
“We are loving our Helix Sunset mattress. I didn’t realise how badly we needed a new one. Every night I look forward to lying down. It is so soft yet supportive where I need it. Definitely recommend.”
But we think that Koko W. says all that you need to know about this mattress. Koko says,
“I love my Helix Sunset so much! It’s like sleeping on a cloud. I used to have awful back pain, but it has just disappeared on the first day I slept on the Helix. The softness is just so perfect. This is one of the greatest decisions I ever made.”
The biggest issue that we had found when looking through was that the mattress was not the right firmness for that person’s needs. But all that we need to do is take the Helix sleep quiz to find out the perfect mattress for you.
So, for customer reviews, we’d give the Helix Sunset 9/10.

Helix Sleep offer some great trials and warranties on their mattresses so we were a little surprised to see that this mattress comes with a 100 night risk free, no obligation trial of the mattress. While this is a fairly good deal it is industry standard… meaning that it’s pretty much the same deal as you would expect from the other big brands. In fact; we have almost become used to the extra 10 nights most are now offering.
As for warranty; the Nightfall comes with a ten year guarantee. While this also sounds great it is the same result as last time. We like to see lifetime guarantees to score that perfect ten. We did also notice that they throw in free shipping which is a nice touch. Their warranty covers things like sagging (as long as a proper base has been used) tears in the fabric and indentations that won’t go away – basically any construction defaults with the bed. If something does go wrong, however, they will pick it up and replace it all for free.
